100.000 kuna to the university libraries for new books  

OTP banka traditionally celebrates the World Savings Day by presenting suitable gifts and donations in its business centers. This year, within its program “Green light for knowledge” the bank donated university libraries in Zadar, Split, Pula, Dubrovnik and Sisak in the total amount of 100.000 kuna.

Wishing to emphasize the significance of savings and investments into knowledge, the bank’s representatives visited the university libraries in Zadar, Pula, Dubrovnik, Split and Sisak, as part of the joint action marking the World Savings Day. Donated assets are intended for enriching scientific and expert books funds of university libraries as well as for purchasing the computer for the library in Pula.

The new books will help students gain expert knowledge and prepare for future professional challenges. O the other hand, having donated the University library in Split, the bank gave its support to the project of protecting Croatian cultural heritage. This library, which marked its 100th anniversary a few years ago, keeps invaluable national treasure which testifies to the history and the culture of Split and Dalmatia. The value of these materials was also confirmed by the Decision of the Ministry of Culture, according to which these materials are placed under the preventive protection. This means that these materials are legally protected as a cultural treasure. This way, the valuable Collection of Ancient and Rare Books (Rara), the Collection of Writings from 15th and 16th century, as well as the Collection of Serial Publications from the beginning of 19th till the end of 20th century will be preserved by being converted into digital format in order to preserve the original materials as a whole.

The students who were using the books in the university libraries most frequently convinced in a fact that being diligent and devoted is worthwhile. OTP banka prepared suitable gifts for these students, in order to point out to the significance of ongoing professional improvement and development of the society based on knowledge. The bank cheered up their colleagues who were present at the ceremony as well, with symbolic gifts. As part of marking the World Savings Day, students were able to find out more about the bank’s offer such as student account and savings possibilities.  

Of course, we have not forgotten our youngest: OTP banka business centers in Zadar, Pula, Pazin, Rovinj and Labin as well as center in Sisak, hosted the children from kindergartens and primary schools and, like every year, cheered them up with welcome gifts. This way the bank managed to introduce children to the terms like bank, investment and saving helping them gain a healthy savings habit and thus become true little savers.

 

The cooperation with General Hospital Dubrovnik continued

Carrying on the tradition of providing support to “Professor on Rounds” project, OTP banka donated 50 000 kuna to General Hospital Dubrovnik. 

Our bank continued cooperation with General Hospital Dubrovnik on the project called “Professor on Rounds”, which was initiated in 2002. The goal of the project is to ensure General Hospital Dubrovnik is institution of professionals with great expertise, knowledge and skills, which will reduce the number of patients leaving to another health centers, increase the quality of services and ensure higher availability of health care for patients from Dubrovnik area. This is done through organized arrival of acknowledged domestic and foreign experts from clinical institutions. So far, implementation of “Professor on Rounds” project has been very successful, to satisfaction of a many patients.

Donation contract was signed by Dr. Andro Vlahušić, Head of General Hospital Dubrovnik and Damir Odak, OTP banka Hrvatska CEO. Cooperation between OTP banka and General Hospital Dubrovnik on the development projects which will be implemented in cooperation with local and regional government were also discussed at the meeting. OTP banka is in business cooperation with General Hospital Dubrovnik for a number of years now.

 

OTP banka sponsors premiere of Aeschylus's “Oresteia”

Continuing the long-standing tradition of supporting Dubrovnik Summer Festival, OTP banka donated 180 000 kuna for performance of this years’ premiere of Aeschylus’s” Oresteia”. Josipa Vodenac, Director of Business Centre Dubrovnik and Southern Dalmatia OTP banka handed a check to Dr. Ivica Prlender, Dubrovnik Summer Festival Director at the press conference organized on the occasion of the premiere.

The premiere of Aeschylus’s “Oresteia” directed by Ozren Prohić was realized in a co-production with Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, and its premiere took place on Friday, 14th July under Minčeta fortress. Oresteia is a common name for Aeschylus’s trilogy in which the main roles are performed by Ivan Herceg, Alma Prica, Milan Pleština, Mirsad Tuka and Zrinka Cvitešić.

Being the bank strongly connected to Dubrovnik area, OTP banka traditionally supports cultural events in Dubrovnik with its donation program intended for Dubrovnik’s cultural institutions. The bank supported numerous drama premiers at Dubrovnik Summer Festival. „The story about the soldier“, „Grižula“and „Undine“are some of those.

 

Klapa Cambi’s concert as a present for Zadar

OTP banka was the general sponsor of Cambi’s concert, held on July 2006 on Five Wells Square in Zadar. Zadar audience was numerous, despite the fact that one of the most important World Football Championship games was played during the concert. People from Zadar had a chance to enjoy Dalmatian songs performed by Dalmatian harmony-singing group Cambi, and their guest, Tomislav Bralić.

Dalmatian harmony-singing group Cambi was founded in 1987 and is a member of Cultural and Artistic Association Cambi from Kaštel Kambelovac. The name origin can be traced to the name of a noble family Cambi. This Dalmatian harmony-singing group became known to a lager audience in 1991, with their first performance in Omiš, at the Festival of Dalmatian harmony-singing group groups. Cambi is one of the most famous and excellent Dalmatian harmony-singing group groups, which can be confirmed by numerous invitations to perform. A crown of their amateur work is the first released album “Pretty picture”.

 

The support for Dalmatinska zagora Waiters’ Race and Baby marathon

OTP banka sponsored the fifth Dalmatinska zagora Waiters’ Race and second Baby marathon, which was organized by Radio Imotski on 14th August in the centre of Imotski. Traditionally in the eve of the Mary’s Assumption, a multitude of visitors are entertained by baby competition and skillful waiters as well as performances of cultural and art associations. Mate Malenica from café bar Glamour from Imotski won the Fastest Waiter Title.

Babies and their marathon attracted the greatest attention. The contestants, dressed like little postmen, had to pass a 15 meter long lane, and bring a letter from one parent to the other one waiting at the finish. Josip Pranjić, a 21 month-old from Vrgorac was the winner in the younger category, 18 to 23 month-olds, while Klara Lana Vidak, a 27 month-old from Proložac, was the fastest girl in the category from 23 to 28 month-olds.

 

OTP banka’s award for the winner of “Race for the Ring”

OTP banka was once again this year the sponsor of medieval knights’ game “Race for the Ring”. The thirty-first race was held in Barban, on the third Sunday in August. This knight’s competition, which faithfully represents Istrian culture and historic heritage, is run in three races, with riders who have a chance to win competing in the third race. Eight best riders qualified for the third race this year, and the winner was Danijel Učkar with seven points won. The winner riding the horse named Lara was presented with transferable cup – Diminić’s Bird Ring –by Ivan Jakovčić, County Prefect, Kolinda Grabar- Kitarović, Foreign Affairs Minister and former Prime Minister Ivica Račan, while Aldo Rojnić, Business centre Istra’s Director of Business Banking sector presented the winner with 20 thousand kuna.

Since the revival of the tradition of this race in 1976 until today sixteen contestants have been named winners. “Race for the Ringlet” took place the day before “Race for the Ring”. In four tie-breaks strength was measured between Mauricio Učkar and Gordan Galant, who won 10.5 points and Vitica in the seventh race.

 

Old-timers’ exhibition with OTP banka’s support in Pazin once again

Ninth international old-timers’ gathering “OTP banka – Pazin 2006” in the organization of Old-timer club Pazin was held on 29th July.  On Pazin Grammar School Promenade 85 crews with their vehicles gathered to show their age without shame. A special curiosity was raised by skills and accuracy test, during which one had to pass a polygon equipped with cones in no longer than thirty seconds, without knocking down the cones and gaining any negative points for it. The crews then took off for a six-hour drive, and the gathering ended with great traditional folk fest in Pazin.

The greatest number of participants and their old automobiles and motorcycles came from different parts of Croatia and Slovenia, and several crews came from Italy. So far eight international old-timer gatherings were held in Pazin, with over 1300 participants. 

 

OTP banka sponsors Sea Organs Festival

Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development and financial help of OTP banka, Sea Organs Festival “Mitra zonata” was held in the end of June at the Sea Organs in Zadar. The idea behind the festival was to unite and emphasize the greatest Zadar characteristics: Dalmatian harmony-singing, nautical tourism, beauty of the sea and the sea organs. Well-known Croatian entertainers and Dalmatian harmony-singing groups took turns in front of the large Zadar audience and their guests. All performers had a subtle acoustic background of the sea organs which with its sound, added to the singing of Dalmatian harmony-singing groups. Eighteen Croatian entertainment music singers and 13 Dalmatian harmony-singing groups performed, and all of the performers sang well known compositions about the sea and sailing on sail boats along the sea organ.

The festival had a humanitarian note. During the Festival the means necessary for building of Croatian house in Padua, the project under the supervision of Dr. Nela Sršen, were collected. Moreover, activities of the Nature Protection Association “Val” were also presented. Efforts have been made to warn about the necessity to protect the Adriatic, and the rarest species like dolphins, Mediterranean monk seal, and also some kinds of shells. 

 

Donations to Knin University, elementary school and kindergarten

Having understanding for the needs of the local community, OTP bankaI donated financial means to Knin University “Marko Marulić”, II Elementary School and kindergarten “Cvrčak”. The donation took placeon 8th Septemberon the occasion of the opening of OTP banka’s new branch office in Knin.

Zorislav Vidović presented the Deeds of Donation to Marko Jelić, Marko Marulić University Dean, Slavica Šimić, Head of II Elementary School and Mary Rastović, Head of “Cvrčak” kindergarten. Besides the Deed of Donation, Slavica Šimić was presented with OTP banka’s money-boxes, which cheered up the first-graders of II Elementary School.

“OTP banka recognizes the importance of supporting education, which we realize through our program “Green light for knowledge”. We made the decision to provide support to Knin educational system because we believe young people in Knin should be motivated to educate themselves and apply that knowledge one day within local economy”, emphasized Slaven Celić, Director of OTP banka Retail Sector.

 

Two million kuna for Zadar basketball players

Continuing to provide long-term support to Zadar basketball players, OTP banka signed a 3-year sponsorship contract with Basketball Club Zadar, and thus ensured two million kuna for the Croatian Vice-champion.

Damir Odak, OTP banka Hrvatska CEO, and Dr. Zvonimir Vrančić, President of BC Zadar, signed the sponsorship contract at the premises of BC Zadar on April 6. Having signed this contract, OTP banka within its program “Green light for sports”, continues with its 30-year long tradition of sponsoring the most successful Zadar sports team. Therewith, OTP banka is now one of the largest sponsors of Zadar basketball players. Zadar County Prefect Ivo Grbić and Deputy Mayor Dr. Dražen Grgurović were also present at the ceremonial signing of the contract.

“As the bank profoundly connected to Zadar which cherishes the values of this town, we are proud to support this successful club which wins recognition for Zadar even outside basketball courts. We believe that, with this financial support, we will encourage BC Zadar to continue playing successfully and winning trophies”, stated Damir Odak, OTP banka CEO, on the occasion of the signing of the contract. While expressing appreciation for continued bank’s support, Dr. Vrančić stated that the new contract is actually a confirmation of the former successful cooperation.

Basketball Club Zadar is current Croatian Vice-champion. In February this year, the club won Krešimir Ćosić Cup for the fifth time, second time in a row.

 

OTP banka general sponsor of “Fruits of Dalmatia” Fair

OTP banka sponsored the First fair of indigenously domestic products - “Fruits of Dalmatia”, which took place on 5th and 6th May 2006 in Split. This way it encouraged small business development in Croatia.  

Small manufacturers, entrepreneurs-beginners, family homesteads and cooperative societies which did not have enough financial means to take part in large fairs had the opportunity to present their products on “Fruits of Dalmatia” Fair. On this two-day fair more than 40 exhibitors presented their products, like homemade honey, olive oil, homemade flat cake, cakes without additives, flat cakes made with dry figs, steamed and dried fish, cheeses, candied almonds, lavender, creams and oils made of herbal essences, mead, brandies with different herbs, wines, etc.

The fair was organized by Center for Encouraging Entrepreneurship and Craftsmanship from Split (CEPOS), which implements programs for developing entrepreneurship and craftsmanship in Split-Dalmacija County, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Entrepreneurship and the City of Split. With this fair, the organizers gave opportunity to small manufacturers to present themselves on the market, at the same time promoting and stimulating domestic manufacturers, family homesteads and cooperative societies in manufacturing healthy domestic products. Given that their production is small and quality, it is very important that indigenously domestic products find their way to the market, and in limited quantities, because that is their true value as authentic domestic products.

Through sponsoring “Fruits of Dalmatia” Fair, OTP banka confirmed its strategic direction in providing support to the development of small and medium-size entrepreneurship and craftsmanship and the preservation of indigenously domestic products.

 

OTP banka proudly sponsors Dubrovnik water-polo players

 

For the third time in history, after 1980 and 2001, water-polo players from Dubrovnik’s club Jug, won the title of the best European team. Jug WC hosted the final tournament of Water-polo Championships League on 19th and 20th of May this year. Three Italian clubs, Savona, Pro Recco and Posillipo were hosted at the tournament. In the unforgettable Final four decisive game in front of the full Gruž swimming pool, WC Jug won over Pro Recco with the score 9:7 thus winning the title of the best Old Continent’s team.

WC Jug participated in the Final Four for the fourth time in the past six years, which none of the European teams managed, while qualification for the final tournament was prerequisite for candidacy to host the tournament. Since OTP banka has been sponsoring Jug Water-polo Club for years, the bank’s CEO Damir Odak congratulated the players on winning the title of European Champions: “With your excellent performance and a professional approach to each game, you proved as a team with the winning spirit. Top sport results are achieved only through hard work, sacrifice, and the love for sport. I believe your victories are going to be example and a role-model to all the young people in Dubrovnik. We are happy that, with our contribution, we helped Jug Water-polo Club on their way to the victory”.   

Jug WC was established in 1923, and so far it won the title of European Champion on three occasions. The Club won the European LEN Cup in 2000 and the State Championship for 26 times, National Cup for 5 times and numerous titles in junior categories.  

 

General sponsorship of the 11th International Women Tennis Tournament

OTP banka sponsored the International Women Tennis Tournament – Zaton Open 2006, which took place from 12th to 21st of May this year in Zaton tourist complex and was organized by Zadar company Turisthotel. More than 60 young players from all over the world participated at this tournament, and the award-winning fund amounted to $10 000. Tadeja Majerič from Slovenia and Ani Mijačika from Croatia qualified for the finals. Ani Mijačika secured the victory in the finals at the same time winning six points for the world ranking list. Eight tournaments of this rank, which are evaluated for the world ranking list, are being held in Croatia every year.  

 

OTP banka sponsoring the best Istrian sportswomen

Successful long-term cooperation between Pula women volleyball players and the bank has continued even after the change in the bank’s ownership structure, so the club carries a new name – OTP banka since autumn. The girls had a lot of successes in the new season even deserving the title of the best women sports team in Istria.

After unsuccessful last season in the domestic championship, which they finished at the 10th place, the girls from Pula are once again at the top of Croatian volleyball. By winning over Zagreb club “Mladost”, the players led by coach Boris Breščić, secured the right to take part in the Championship League a competition of the the best six teams in Croatia. At the moment, they are the 3rd on the rank-list.  

Girls were busy even during Christmas holidays. At the tournament in Izola in Slovenia, they won the first place by competing against the players born in 1987 and the third position by competing against the players born in 1991. Cadet players also took part at the international tournament Volley Star 2006 in Belgrade.

As the additional confirmation of their sport success, Istrian County Sports League awarded OTP banka Pula volleyball players with the title of the best women sports team in Istrian County and the City of Pula. Print media awarded them with special recognition by pronouncing them the best women sports team in Croatia. At the moment they are ranked second in the Championship League of I-A Croatian Volleyball League. OTP banka will continue supporting them on their way to gold.

 

Donation to "Kuća skrbi" in Pula   

OTP banka gave a donation to another institution from Pula area which takes care of ill persons who are unprovided for. In order to ensure more pleasant stay in Kuća skrbi Polikarpa, OTP banka donated its used kitchen equipment which would be used for renovation of the institution’s kitchen. Kuća skrbi Polikarpa is a company which, along with its daughter company – the Institution for Social Care – cares for more than a hundred refugees and displaced persons, mostly old and seriously ill people and almost the same number of domicile protégés who do not have anyone to take care of them.
