Supporting Dreamlike Book Fair In Istria for the fourth consecutive year
Thanks to Istrian book fair, Pula today is one of Croatian book centers. Namely. after Zagreb Interliber, Dreamlike Book Fair (Sa(n)jam knjige) is the greatest book fair in Croatia, which is recognized not only in Croatia but also internationally. Gathering of many literature legends at this year’s 11th Book Fair, supported by OTP banka only confirms this fair’s significance.
The Fair was the original idea of Magdalena Vodopija, its Director, who started organizing it ten years ago with the support of her family. The first Fair was held in 1995 on the streets at the improvised stands with 56 Croatian publishers presenting. At the last, 11th Fair, which took place in Pula in the period from 1st to 10th December 2005, there were 260 publishers with about 20 000 book titles ranging from children books to encyclopedia rarities.
Besides exhibition-sale part of the Fair which provides overview of published books in Croatia annually and which gathers together publishers, who make the books more available to the readers by offering discounts, festival part of the Fair is what the public recognizes the best and which, with its creativity, makes the Fair special. For the third year in a row, the festival part of the Fair is thematic, and this year the central theme revolves around detective story which was presented through inventive slogans such as “the fair with an alibi”, “premeditated fair” and “involuntary fairslauther”. Along with already known programs such as the Breakfast with an author”, “The Sunset with the book” “Don’t shoot the author”, “With an author in Ulysses”, “At the college at noon” during which the readers have the opportunity to meet Croatian and European literary stars, this year the fair included program called “Conversation behind the curtain” which is intended for those wishing expert talks and discussions on scientific topics.
Presentation of Kiklop (eng: Cyclops) literary award is a highlight of the festival program. Kiklop award was established in 2004 and is presented for achievements in book production of the publishers from Croatia. This time, the award was presented not only to the best works, but also to the best translators, editors, authors, libraries. This way, the dream about brief celebration of literary art successfully came true.
We believe our bank will continue supporting the Dreamlike Book Fair in Istria and making it a reality.

Our bank is one of the
sponsors of Malvasia Mediterranea MMV project
idea of promoting malvasia as one of the famous Croatian
wines came from Istrian wine producers Matošević and
Kozlović and their friends. Project was envisioned as
18-day sailing expedition with two sailing-boats which
started off in Rovinj on 25 May, sailing by Split and
Dubrovnik towards its final destination Monemvassia
in the South of Peloponnesia in Greece, which is considered
to be the cradle of malvasia. Croatian tourism, culture,
viniculture and food were presented in places where
the expedition stopped along the route. On its way back,
the expedition visited Italian ports Bari and Ancona,
and the travel ended with great and cordial welcome
in Venice and return to Pula port.
The goal of Malvasia Mediterranea project was to inform
the public about the significance of malvasia in historical
and cultural development of Mediterranean countries
in the Middle Ages when this wine played an important
role in connecting parts of this region. In fact, malvasia
symbolically links Mediterranean culture since 13th
century and, by its significance and level of recognition,
can be compared with today’s international “brands”.
The expedition had promotional
as well as scientific character – kinship and origins
of different sorts of Mediterranean malvasia were analyzed
at the International Symposium held in Monemvassia which
took place during the expedition and our scientists
and other members of the expedition took part in it.
Having recognized the importance of promoting Croatian
culture as well as our gastronomy and viniculture through
Malvasia Mediterranea project, our bank gave its contribution
to a greater level of recognition of malvasia in this
part of Mediterranean and of course promotion of Croatia.
